Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Avondale - Fuel-Saving Engine Stop/Start in 2015 Jeep Cherokee

The 2015 Jeep Cherokee is getting a slight boost later this year using the Engine Start/Stop (ESS) system. This system is predicted to have a three percent improvement in fuel economy and that same percentage of reduction in CO2 emissions. The Start/Stop System detects when the vehicle comes to a stop and automatically turns the engine off. Once the driver lets off the brake, the car will start back up again using a high-speed motor within a third of a second. The ESS system will depend on the temperature outside, the temperature of the engine, and the climate-control system. This system is a Chrysler-developed one but debuted in the RAM 1500 pickup. The images below are of the ESS system in the Chrysler.

From the start of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee year, all Jeep Cherokee V-6 models will have this feature at no extra cost. Customer's who do not like this feature do have the option of turning it off. This should start as early as December. The Jeep Cherokee has earned many accolades including SUV of the Year and Utility Vehicle of the Year. Pictured below is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

"We're taking highly efficient engines and upping the ante to further benefit our customers," said Mike Duhaime, Global Director-Electrified Powertrain Propulsion Systems. "ESS leverages intricate control strategies to deliver a superior driving experience, as well as the expected fuel-savings and emissions-reduction."
